IREF Courses

IREF currently offers 3 courses: Two for referees and one for coaches


IREF Basics Course

This is the standard course for all referees. This course will teach you the SECRET of the SECRET SAUCE!

IREF Advance Course

This course is for Referees who’ve completed the Basics course and who wish to improve their match management.

Ask the Ref

This course is available for coaches and admins who seek better understanding of the calls and rules of the game.


IREF Basics Course

These five courses are apart of the “IREF Basics Course” that every referee will take during their training. This course covers the following: Mindset, Laws, Mechanics, game day preparations, and game management.

This course breaks down:

-The mindset of players, parents, coaches, and referees into why they think and act the way they do.

-The laws of the game are also covered. Many of which are unique to the rec (or training) leagues.

-The mechanics of how to use signals, whistle etiquette, field positioning, and fitness (Mind, Body, Spirit), game day preparation and gear, game management, foul recognition and what to do with aggressive or abusive players, parents and coaches.

ASSESSMENT

Upon completion of the “IREF Basic Course” first time referees will receive their welcome package consisting of their IREF patch, red and yellow cards, and certificate for that calendar year. Other Items are also available such as uniforms, whistles, and ref flags.


IREF Advance Course: Match Management

This course is available to referees that can pass an intermediate laws test with a 90%. This advance match management course covers the following: fear, optics, mechanics for the referee and assistant referees, mechanics application, SECRET SAUCE of match management, communication and positioning, and fitness and game day preparations.

This course is annual. This advance course has similar components to the basics course, but in greater detail and breaks down the finer points of refereeing.


“Ask the Ref”
Annual Course

-This course is available to coaches and administrators. This course covers the most misunderstood calls and procedures in soccer: Signals taking of free kick, handling, advantage, what is dissent, how to talk to a referee, how to support the referee crew.
